The body undergoes significant changes during pregnancy. Hormonal upheaval causes the body’s tendons and ligaments to relax, among other things. The abdominal muscles weaken, and of course there is the delivery itself and the consequences for the pelvic floor.
To help you feel good again after pregnancy, we have created a three-stage comprehensive tailored plan to get you back to fitness.
This plan was developed by the Health & performance, Maternity, and Physiotherapy center teams.
Stage 1: Pelvic floor rehabilitation
After childbirth, a mother’s body continues to change over the next several weeks. During this time, she should rehabilitate her pelvic floor, the muscle that surrounds the vagina, which has been weakened. This step is important for all women.
Our maternity unit and physiotherapy center offer specialized consultations. Sessions are provided on a one-to-one basis and how many sessions you have depends on your needs. Sessions are by appointment.
Care
Pelvic floor rehabilitation is covered by your basic health insurance because it is provided on prescription.
Stage 2: “Get your strength back after having a baby” workshop series
This tailored workshop helps you progressively strengthen your abdominal wall, without any risk of weakening the pelvic floor, while taking into account problems such as prolapse, diastasis, and urinary leakage. It is run by a physiotherapist who specializes in perineology.

This workshop series includes nine sessions that focus on strengthening the abdominal wall in groups of no more than six people.

This workshop series is available with a medical prescription and is reimbursed by your health insurance.
Stage 3: “Get back to physical activity” workshop series
The purpose of this workshop series is to support you to get back into regular exercise that you can maintain over the long term. It is composed of various activities including muscle strengthening and cardio. It is run by an exercise coach from the Health & performance team.

This workshop series includes six sessions of physical activity in groups of no more than six people, and two online sessions each week for you to do on your own.

Registration and further information
You must start pelvic floor rehabilitation before getting back to more strenuous exercise. We advise following the entire plan from stage 1 through 3, but you can register for pelvic floor rehabilitation and each of the workshop series separately.
